RAJA...

What is about Jadavpur(the place where I stay)that feels timeless in the late afernoon or early evening? Is that the playground in my neighbourhood that remained unchanged for the last 15 years?Or the station near my house??(Late night i still hear the trains passing) Or is it my friends house down the street which had been my forbidding refuge in my those tough days of childhood??
I used to dislike studying..I felt in painful..but now..Lets not say anything...:)
There have been many dogs i fed and reared on these streets.and kids I've played with, nameless and now they seem to be receding in my memeory. Was kithkith a valid sport??
Was choyachuyi a valid sport?? Now i wonder that i have passed my best days of my life...Kabol mama(a famous shop in my para) gave me lozenges for free,I had this friend with me who accompanied me in all my games, from playing ghor-ghor,to rickshaw-ala..

Now i find the old faces gradually dissappearing. Kabol mama s shop bulldozed and we have have an apartment in that place, many dogs too are dying..Only Raja remains,a well 12 years old dog--he sleeps mostly, walks slowly, eats less. But yesterday my old raja, chaser of tomcats accompanied me to the shop nearby.he dragged his rear foot and stared at me-- misty eyed.I love you ,his eye said,my dear mistress..So we have walked all these years, when I had been the King of the streets and you a paltry kid in school. He barked at some preposterous imposters who came and licked my feet.I gave them Parle-g biscuit,(yes the biscuit remain unchanged.the kid on the cover mainly)And then walked back to the gate.

He plopped himself on my feet and we sat in a rare monsoon sun--sweltering, dazzling--let us freeze time, said my old Salman's eyes, let us be dog and human and such as this, for all time...
