May the force be with you

The dictionary defines hope as an amalgamation of three entities namely belief, goal and path.
“I
must overcome this pain” says the inner you, hoping to conquer the disbelief things will not
change. Human lives are infused with afflictions and struggle. Hope provides us with the
strength that helps to overcome the various hurdles in life. Life after all is unpredictable. Hope is
our stubborn friend asking to try one more time.
A mind without hope would drag one into the deep abysses of despair, depression and
hopelessness. Hope is a regular practice that is necessary and that unnoticed. For example, you
apply for a job because you hope to get selected for the job. Similarly, you study for an
examination with the hope to secure good grades. Hope motivates us to affix a strong image of
our selves. It drives us to stay positive and it further acts as an agent to bring a powerful change
in one’s life. We all aspire to be the best version of ourselves. How do you suppose one remains
fixed to a particular goal? It is hope.
Poet Emily Dickinson considers hope as a thing with feathers. It is light, gentle and warm. Hope,
like a bird, has feathers and can perch in the human soul. Its feathers might be soft and gentle to
the touch, but are made up of complex individual fibres, which make them strong in flight; their
unity is their strength. Hope gives mortals the courage to face the unknown tomorrow. It
provides the gift of faith. It is an antidote to hopelessness, nihilism and existentialism. In the
words of Albert Camus “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible
summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against
me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”The
invincible summer is hope. Hope for a better tomorrow, a new beginning or a new goal.
Hope breeds hope. Hope instills the motivation to transform dreams into realities. An
unemployed person can be hopeful to get a job by looking at a picture of a successful business. It is his hard work that transforms his desire into reality. Hope is that faithful friend who gently
taps on your shoulder reassuring “You will be there”. Hope is an important ingredient of positive
living. If we look at history, we see how men lived through tough times with only hope by their
side. Christopher Reeves was paralyzed after a horse riding accident and breathing through his
ventilator he observed, “Once you choose hope, anything's possible.”Hope gives strength at
uncanny times. In the movie “The Shawshank Redemption” (1994) directed by Frank Darabont,
the movie ends with a very powerful dialogue “Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the
best of things, and no good thing ever dies”.
